Black Velvet Part I: Light as a Feather

I have grown tired of waiting for it to cool down and started looking for creative ways to sport my favorite fall items. I have been dying to wear this vintage black velvet duster of mine. I have diligently been searching my closet for ways to style it without overheating. Layering it over this light as a feather Cascades of Ruffles Tunic from Free People is one breezy answer(more to come). These Jeffrey Campbell x Free People Bowery Ankle Boots really bring the whole feminine, romantic look together, which works equally great for day or night. I added some quirky accessories to spice it up. This is one of my current favorite outfits. It's really something special when you feel like your soul is reflected in your outer appearance. And this look definitely captures my essence.
I feel like I could go anywhere in this, Joshua Tree to Paris. I feel adventurous, romantic, magical, prêt à tout - ready for anything.   The ruffles are so fun and flirty especially with my round vintage glasses, they keep it light and whimsical. I just want to wear this literally every day.

Walking Under Leaves.

This is always a weird time of year for me. Despite how many times I have lived through it now, it always manages to get me by surprise. The months of September and October always become disparate. My body is living in what the temperature would classify as "summer" and my mind is insistent that it is "autumn".  And I spend these weeks in a state of disbelief and longing. Needless to say there's a lot of interesting and perhaps inappropriate outfits that I throw together. But there are a couple that I just want to wear for like a week straight. Like this one.

To say that I have been trying to find creative ways to wear some of my fall colors and items, would be an understatement. For example I've been wearing my jackets with as little as possible underneath, like this J. Patterson Kincaid Parka with all the lining out,  the sleeves rolled up and just a little black tank dress underneath. I do really have a love affair with this parka. I have found ways to wear it all year long. Even when it's so blazing hot. It just makes me feel polished and yet ready for anything. I have also been wearing these Jeffrey Campbell Cantu Booties all summer long. They give any outfit such an interesting twist. Plus the wedge version is super comfy. And for some reason I have been feeling compelled to use some of my smaller purses lately. It makes me feel lighter, more on the move. This Alexander Wang Pelican Sling Bag is my absolute favorite, it has the perfect combination of timelessness and edginess, and it's a little under the radar. It has definitely been my go-to bag lately. Thank god I have these items in my closet, they are keeping me together until it's cold enough to wear a soft beanie on my head.

"There is a part of me that will forever want to be walking under autumn leaves, carrying a briefcase containing the works of Shakespeare and Yeats and a portable chess set. I will pass an old tree under which once on a summer night I lay in the grass with a fragrant young woman and we quoted e.e. cummings back and forth."

Greece Part Three: CRETE

Crete is unimaginably gorgeous. There is so much wild, rugged terrain, with quaint, picturesque villages tucked in here and there. The whole island nestled in the deep blue of the Mediterranean, rich with ancient history. It also holds some of the oldest ruins in the world, Knossos. The first settlement dates to about 7000 BC. The first palace dates to 1900 BC. It's a really cool place to check out, the oldest road in Europe is part of the ruins of Knossos. I could write a lot about the facts and history of Knossos, if it interests you, do a little wiki research.

From Knossos we drove back through Heraklion and headed out west across the island. We chose to stay in Rethymno, which I could not be happier about, it was simply enchanting. It's architecture dates back to the 16th century, as a Venetian fishing village, with arched doorways, long stairways and  narrow cobblestone walkways, complete with a Venetian-era citadel, the Fortezza, one of the best-preserved castles in Crete. Rethymno was timeless, romantic and had some of the best seafood dishes of all time. The next day we drove through the Samaria Gorge to the south western side of the island where we stumbled across a gorgeous beach called Shinaria. It even had lounge chairs and umbrellas, and you can buy a Mythos for a couple euro.

Crete is a genuinely divine island, that I plan on returning to many, many times. In fact Daniel and I hope to one day own a little piece of it ourselves.
